Speyers
Frank Speyers (b. 1947), was born in the Netherlands and lived there until 1956 when he immigrated with his parents to Canada. He subsequently moved to the States in 1967 and went on to earn a Masters in Communication Design from Pratt Institute (1977) in New York City. While pursuing post-graduate studies at Harvard Graduate School of Design in 1990, he collaborated with Massimo Vignelli in the formulation of a design pedagogy. Speyers worked as brand designer for several Fortune 500 corporations and in 1988 began teaching design as a language at Calvin College until his retirement in 2018. Since then he has returned to painting full time. He was first introduced to Leelanau as an Artist in Residence in 2009, participated in the annual Glen Arbor paint out and taught plein air painting in Omena on behalf of the Leelanau Conservancy. Additionally he was selected as the featured artist in the Cowboys & Indians magazine.
