GALI Studio was established in 1996 by Gali Chehirian. Its unique table top and home décor lines include functional hand-blown and hand-painted glassware. GALI's pieces are exclusively hand crafted by her in Sarasota, Florida. New and advanced technologies in paint making, made it possible for the revival of an 18th century technique. The brush application of the paint on the back of the glass makes the image appearance more intimate and spontaneous. It polymerizes and hardens at a kiln based temperature. The drawing or painting of symbols, ornaments and images on serving wares is one of the most ancient of the arts. At various periods and in different places, this tradition has been the vehicle of sophisticated artistry, used to transform the humblest utilitarian vessels into objects of beauty. The technique used in the creation of Gali Studio's table top and home decor lines is Verre Eglomise, or reverse painting on glass. It has been used in Ancient Rome, the Middle Ages and especially in Venice, during the Italian Renaissance. The direct multi-color application by brush on the back of hand blown glass provides limitless possibilities for the interpretation of this centuries-old tradition. Moreover, it transforms and relates these most common of functional objects to the aesthetic demands of today.
